Santa Clause is Dead

This morning, at breakfast, I asked the kids what they want from Santa. We have had many discussions about St. Nic and how we celebrate Santa because of who he was and what he did. They know that Santa's not real but this year Madeline wanted to pretend to get a gift from him. So we have been talking about their lists. When I asked what they wanted, Myah announced, "Santa Clause is dead!" We then had a very LONG discussion about NOT telling any other kids that Santa's dead. Not trying to be soul crushers here =) Madeline is a very literal kid and one that needs to know the truth and since we never wanted her to question the reality of Jesus, from the time she asked at three years old, "Is Santa real?" she has known the truth. When she asked me that I said, "What do you think?" and she replied that she didn't think it could happen. Myah, however, seems to be very confused about the issue =) and goes from "Santa's dead" to "Tell him to get me the squishy thing what wiggles what I saw on TV" (a fijit). So, we just don't make a big deal, either way. I'm trying to teach them about St Nic and the importance of being generous and willing to share instead of Santa and what he can give them. So crossing my fingers that Myah doesn't announce to any poor unsuspecting child, "Santa Clause is dead!" (I'm pretty sure she got this from Madeline telling her that St Nic is in heaven with Jesus)

We are in a very similar situation at our house! I think Audrey knows in her heart that Santa isn't real but goes along with it because she wants to believe. Henry however has no idea that it's impossible for Santa to fly, come down the chimney, etc. I answer all their Santa questions with "what do you think" too!
