What does your family altar look like?
We don't have a family altar in our house where we kneel and pray every day as a family. Although, today as I'm thinking about the idea, I like it. Altars were places to worship God and remember what He had done for them. Psalm 48:13 reminds God's people to remember what He has done for them so that they can tell the next generation. Scott and I are devoting our lives to telling the next generation about Jesus. I cannot imagine doing anything other than being involved in kids' ministry-whatever that may look like. In the last 12+ years we have gone through many different seasons, some harder than others, but all of them focused on impacting leaders and kids with the Gospel of Christ. This generation needs to know vs 14, "For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end." In the Old Testament they'd build altars every time God did something spectacular or when He took them to a new place or taught them something. It would impact our kids' lives if we had "altars" in our homes and kids' churches to remember what God has done. Maybe a picture of a special time, like a baptism or a salvation. Maybe a keepsake of some sort from a place God has used to impact your life. Maybe a family Bible to signify that "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord". Maybe a Scripture on the wall. God always used physical things to remind His people of spiritual truths. Whatever we do, we need visual reminders in our homes and our kids' churches that God is our God to the end and nothing/no one can change that. Ps 48:13 tells us to consider what God has done so that we "may tell of those things to the next generation." I can't think of a better way to spend my life than telling the next generation about our God! I am blessed and humbled that this is the calling God has given us. I'd love to hear about your family's "altars"!
