Guns or no guns?
Guns or no guns? The Chinese had bamboo guns in the 10th century, complete with gun powder and shrapnel. Italy had cannons in 1320. During the 14th century Europeans had hand held cannons. I'm sure you wouldn't want those to misfire! Guns have been around for a very long time and don't seem to be doing anything other than becoming more accurate and more deadly. Our country is divided. I don't think the issue is really about guns. It's about something else that has been around since creation - a power struggle. From creation Satan has been battling for control. Cain killed his brother because of a struggle for God's attention. God scattered people around the world at the tower of Babel because they were struggling to become god. The weapons have changed over the years but the struggle is the same. Who has the power? Who has the control? Who do we trust? Psalm 56 is about a power struggle between David and the Philistines. Psalm 56:3,4 declares this, "When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?" Then David goes on to talk about what the Philistines were doing to him. David's message? God is faithful. God will deliver him. God can be trusted. Man is harmless. Mortal man can do nothing to God's people. Again in verse 11 he says, "In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Verse 13: "For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life." As an American, I value our freedoms and the right to bear arms but I don't put my trust, hope and future in those freedoms and rights. Those can disappear in a day, or over several years. What never fails and never will disappear is God's love for His people. "In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise-In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Psalm 56:10,11 Today I am praying this for my kids. I pray that they grow up trusting in Jesus no matter what happens at the hands of mortal man. Nothing is certain except that Jesus, at His resurrection, defeated Satan and there really isn't a power struggle in the end - the war has been won!
